This is the "Mairi" Hat
A perfect hat to wear during #wearingirish March promoted by Margaret Molloy
I've created this beautiful headpiece in collaboration with Ceramic and Fine Porcelain designer Mairi Stone, from Ballydehob, Co. Cork.
When I first saw Mairi's pieces, I fell in love immediately with them...her work is truly amazing and it was the perfect addition for my "Tales from the sea" collection.
Mairi made the shells to my specifications in regards to sizes and colors using Porcelain Paperclay from the Scarva pottery in Northern Ireland.
She fused glass into the pieces...this is far more pleasing and colourful than glazes. As the glass cools it 'crackles' giving a beautiful crystalline effect.
When the pieces are not colored, then it is the amazing translucency of the porcelain that is being shown.
And this is how the "Mairi" Hat was born!
A medium, hand blocked "Dove Grey" sinamay perching cap base, decorated with fine porcelain Paperclay shells handcrafted by designer Mairi Stone.
This feminine headpiece is finished with hand sewn pearls nesting inside the shells...
You can visit Mairi Stone Facebook Page, her instagram or her shop in Etsy where you can buy her designs from small shells to big lamps, etc...
